SPICY BEEF AND PORK CUTLETS WITH MASHED POTATO
Homemade minced meat cutlets are a popular family meal. Our recipe uses beef and pork, white bread, spices and onions. We served ours with mashed potato made with ground red pepper and fried onions.
Ingredients for beef and pork patties: 500 grams of minced beef and pork mix, 1 medium sized onion, 1 egg, 200 grams of cornflour, 1 clove of fresh garlic, half tsp of coriander, half tsp of blue fenugreek, 250 grams of bread, 1 tbs of tomato puree, 1 tsp of ground red pepper and 1 tsp of dry berberis berries.
Ingredients for mashed potato: 500 grams of potatoes, 100 ml milk, 100 grams of butter, 1 tsp of dry red pepper, 1 large onion.
Preparation of beef and pork patties:
Add the bread to a bowl and add water.
Break up the bread with your fingers until it has absorbed all of the water.
Add the minced beef and pork mix to the bowl containing the bread and add 1 medium sized chopped onion and 1 clove of garlic. We used a meat grinder to chop the onion and garlic.
Add 1 egg, half tsp of coriander, half tsp of blue fenugreek, 1 tbs of tomato puree and 1 tsp of ground red pepper.
Mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon. Add 1 tsp of dry berberis berries and mix again.
Take a spoonful of the meat mixture and roll it in cornflour until it is fully covered.
Use your hands to shape the meat.
Place the molded cutlets into a pan of hot oil (about 20 mls of oil) and fry on a medium heat for 7-10 minutes each side.
Preparation of mashed potato:
Cut and boil the potatoes.
Add the boiled potatoes, together with 100 grams of butter and 100 ml milk, to a bowl and mix with a wooden spoon until the potatoes are mashed.
Chop 1 large onion and fry in a pan.
Add the fried onions and dried red pepper to the mashed potato and mix thoroughly.
Serving: Serve hot. We added green Tkemali Sauce for an extra delicious flavor.
Enjoy your spicy beef and pork cutlets!
