FRUIT AND VEGETABLE MARKET IN TBILISI
A tradition of home-cooked meals, using fresh ingredients, means that the fruit and vegetable markets in Georgia are always busy. Shoppers have a sharp eye for quality and will often individually select fruit and vegetables and sometimes taste something before they decide to buy. Prices are almost always cheaper than supermarkets.
Cheese is always tasted before deciding to buy and it’s not unusual for a discerning shopper to taste two or three cheeses, sometimes rejecting them all and moving on to another stall. No one is offended by this and there is no embarrassment.
Churchkhela (Georgian: ჩურჩხელა) are always popular. These sausage-shaped candies combine two of Georgia’s favorites – grapes and nuts.
We love our markets!
